Ten Verses for Tough Times

A few years ago, during a particularly tough time, I carried around a little dollar-store Dr. Seuss notebook every where I went. In it, I kept verses I could refer to at any (tough) moment’s notice. I learned that people can’t always meet you where you are in a tough moment. And even if they could, they might not understand. But God met me at EVERY tough moment, and He understood. I know He understood because thousands of years ago, He breathed His words of comfort into His book that He knew would comfort millions of people…including me. Here are 10 of the verses I had in that little notebook:

  1. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me. Psalm 138:8
  2. By his wounds you are healed. 1 Peter 2:24
  3. “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” As he spoke these words to me, I suddenly felt stronger…” Dan. 9
  4. Your sun will never go down, your moon will never fade. I will be your eternal light. Your days of grieving are over. Isaiah 60:20
  5. Those who sow in tears WILL reap with songs of joy. Psalm 126:5
  6. Apart from Him we can do nothing. John 15:5. But with Him we can do all things. Philippians 4:13
  7. For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness , but one of power, of love & sound judgement. 2 Timothy 1:7
  8. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2-4
  9. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19
  10. The least of you will become a thousand. Isaiah 60:22

Thanks Heather…for reminding me…that I was trained up in HIS ways and I have never really departed from them…I have only been dissuaded, deceived and discouraged. I feel like I’ve been baptized again…~ THANKS for being a Sister in Christ~ Grace.
